Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca)

Cusco and the Sacred Valley

Vinicunca's striped ridge became famous only around 2015. It is now one of the busiest day trips from Cusco, with a 1.5 to 2 hour climb to a viewpoint at about 5,000 m.

It is high and hard, so do it after a few days at altitude. The nearby Palccoyo has similar colours with a far easier walk.

Vinicunca or Palccoyo?

Vinicunca is the famous single ridge, with crowds of 1,000 or more on busy days. Palccoyo has three striped hills, a 30 to 60 minute walk and very few visitors. Our Rainbow Mountain guide compares them with hike profiles.
