Overview

Spiti (pronounced as Piti in the Bhoti language) is a high-altitude region of the Himalayas; located in the northeastern part of the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. "Spiti" means "The middle land, i.e., the land between Tibet and India. Spiti incorporates mainly the valley of the Spiti River and the valleys of several rivers that feed into the Spiti River. Some major side valleys in Spiti are the Pin and the Lingti valley.

Spiti is bordered on the east by Tibet, north by Ladakh, west and southwest by Lahaul, south by Kullu, and southeast by Kinnaur. Spiti has a cold desert environment. The valley and its surrounding regions are among the least populated areas of India. The Bhoti-speaking local population follows Tibetan Buddhism

  2. 2Narkanda - Sangla - Chitkul (175 Kms / 5-6 hours drive approximately)⌄

    Hatu Mata Temple - Legend has it that this temple is dedicated to Mandodari, beloved wife of Ravana and a revered Panchakanya. It is also believed that Draupadi breathed her last in this spot when she fell from the mountain in the Himalayas on the way to Swarga (Heaven). The temple was established after her demise.

    Kamru Fort - Kamru fort is an ancient wooden fort located on a hill a few kilometers from Sangla town. It was the original seat of the Bushahr dynasty that ruled from here. The capital was later shifted to Sarahan and then to Rampur, from where the last king Padam Singh ruled

  4. 4Chitkul - Kalpa - Nako (150 Kms / 5 hours drive approximately)⌄

    Visit Narayan- Nagini Temple - Narayan Nagini Temple is situated on the top of a hill at Chini Village in Kinnaur District. The Temple Located quite close to the Hu-Bu-Lan-Kar monastery. This temple is supposed to be 5000 yrs old and carries significant importance to Indian mythology of Mahabharata. According to the local folklore. Like most other villages of the Kinnaur, Hinduism had co-existed with Buddhism. People of Kalpa were no exception to the common tradition of the Kinnauri’s. The view of Kinnaur Kailash snow caped mountain is memorizing.

    Hikkim village has a post office situated at an elevation of 4,400 m (14,400 ft) and this post office is the one of the highest post offices in the world

    A paradise for historians, the Key Monastery houses an extensive collection of treasures. You can find valuable manuscripts, Thangkas, beautiful murals, stucco images and peculiar wind instruments within this monastery. Lamas still use these wind instruments during the annual festival of Key Monastery in the summer season
