Day by day itinerary

1. 1Welcome to Southern Ethiopia⌄

   Your guide will warmly welcome you upon arrival at Jinka BCO Airport and provide a brief orientation before beginning your Lower Omo Valley adventure. Depending on your arrival time and local road conditions, we’ll travel toward the Mursi community, one of the most distinctive indigenous communities of the Lower Omo Valley. You’ll have the opportunity to visit a Mursi village, learn about their traditional way of life, cultural practices, and relationship with the surrounding environment. After the Mursi visit, return toward Jinka and take a fascinating walk through the greener, mountainous villages surrounding the town to visit the Aari community. The Aari are primarily agriculturalists who have retained many traditional practices. During the walk, you’ll have the opportunity to observe aspects of their everyday life, agricultural traditions, homes, and relationship with the surrounding highlands. If time permits, we’ll also visit the research Centre museum of the different tribes.

2. 2Karo & Hamer Cultural Experiences⌄

   After breakfast, travel toward the Karo community and visit a traditional Karo village. Spend time learning about Karo culture, traditional practices, daily life, clothing, body decoration, and their close relationship with the Omo River and surrounding environment. Continue toward the Hamer community in the afternoon for a deeper cultural experience. Depending on the local situation and community calendar, you may have the opportunity to witness traditional activities, dancing, ceremonies, or other community events. As the day comes to an end, enjoy the beautiful Lower Omo Valley landscape at sunset, with time for cultural and landscape photography.

3. 3The Dassanach or Arbore or Banna tribe, Farewell & Departure⌄

   Begin the morning with a visit to either the Dassanach or Arbore or Banna tribe community, depending on local conditions, market days, road conditions, and the timing of your departure flight. Spend time learning about the community’s traditional way of life, cultural heritage, and daily activities before beginning the journey back toward Jinka. Enjoy a farewell lunch in Jinka, followed by transfer to Jinka BCO Airport for your onward flight.
