Day by day itinerary

  1. 1Depart from Durban at 6:30am and head off to Tala Private Game Reserve for a Game Drive in a 4 x 4 Open Vehicle⌄

    Tala Game Reserve spans some 3,000 hectares, encompassing a mix of acacia thornveld, open grassland and a sensitive wetland, which attracts more than 380 bird species, and plenty of big game. At Tala Private Game Reserve, you will: a) Go into a 4 x 4 Open Game Viewing Vehicle for a Game Drive b) See different types of animals including the rhino, giraffes, zebra, kudu, impala, eland, and many many more c) See many different types of birds d) Experience the African bush at its best Please note: In the event that Tala Game Reserve is un-available on the day of your tour, the game safari will instead take place at the nearby Gwahumbe Game Reserve, which offers a similar experience and quality of wildlife viewing.

    From Tala Private Game Reserve, proceed to Howick Falls. Howick Falls is a waterfall in Howick, KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa. The waterfall is approximately 95 m in height and lies on the Umgeni River.

    From Howick Falls, proceed to the Nelson Mandela Capture Site. Nelson Mandela was arrested on 5 August 1962 outside of Howick, KZN Natal, South Africa. He spent the next 27 years of his life in prison. The Nelson Mandela Capture Site commemorates this moment in history with a museum and a world renowned sculpture.

  2. 2On day 2, wake up from the Camp Site and walk into the Drakensberg Mountains⌄

    On day 2 wake up in the Drakensberg and walk to the mountains on a hike. The Drakensberg region is extraordinary, thanks to the dramatically beautiful setting. This region is home to the awe-inspiring mountain range which is predominantly found in the KwaZulu Natal Province. The Drakensberg Mountain range is more than 200 kilometres long and combines rugged peaks with verdant valleys and spectacular backdrops. It creates a natural border between the kingdom of Lesotho and the province of KwaZulu-Natal.

    The Camp Site is at Monks Cowl in the Drakensberg. The Monk's Cowl Nature Reserve with its breathtaking vistas of sweeping grasslands on the lower reaches, to magnificent towering cliffs and waterfalls cascading for hundreds of metres makes this an area of the Maloti-Drakensberg Park worth visiting.
