This safari is specially designed for primate lovers with a major focus on mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. It begins with golden monkey tracking in Rwanda and is crowned by gorilla tracking in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. You will stay at the beautiful Lake Bunyonyi on the last day. It starts and ends in Kigali, Rwanda.

Day by day itinerary

  1. 1Transfer From Kigali Airport/Hotel to Musanze Town⌄

    This is place where many victims of the genocide were laid to rest.

    This market showcase the daily shopping need of a typical Rwandan. Connect to the locals' way of life by looking at different items and buy what catches your eye.

    Today, you will be met by a representative of Big Apes Africa at Kigali International Airport and driven to Musanze Town near Volcanoes in preparation for the golden monkey trekking the next day. Should you arrive in plenty of time, you may do a short city tour before leaving the beautiful clean city.

  2. 2Golden Monkey Trekking and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest⌄

    After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to the popular Volcanoes National Park for a briefing before entering the forest to search for the bamboo-associated primates. Some consider this as the next best thing after gorilla trekking. You will be allowed one hour with these beautiful Albertine Rift endemics. After this activity, you will be transferred to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in preparation for gorilla trekking. Your dinner and overnight stay will be at the lodge.

  3. 3Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi⌄

    After an early breakfast, you will drive to the briefing point in the forest of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to get enlightened about your adventure with the mountain gorillas. You are advised to carry enough drinking water and a lunch box. For US 20, you can get a potter to carry your bag and give you a hand in slippery or steep parts of the forest. After the briefing, you are distributed into groups of eight and led by a park ranger into the forest where you will spend one hour with the gentle giants. Rain gear is important considering that Bwindi is a tropical rainforest. After tracking, you will be transferred to Lake Bunyonyi, Africa’s most beautiful lake. While here, you could opt for a swim in the second deepest lake in Africa or explore the surrounding communities on foot.

  4. 4Transfer from Lake Bunyonyi to Kigali International Airport⌄

    Today, you will be transferred from the most beautiful lake Bunyonyi to Kigali International Airport. Depending on how much time you have, you could visit the Genocide Memorial and do some shopping at the craft market in Kigali.
