Day by day itinerary

1. 1Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park⌄

   Depart Dar es Salaam early morning and drive west across scenic countryside to Mikumi National Park. Arrive in time for lunch at your lodge, followed by an afternoon game drive across the Mkata Floodplain. Search for giraffes, elephants, zebras, and lions during golden hour.

   Overnight: Vuma Hills Tented Camp / Mikumi Wildlife Camp or similar.

2. 2Full Day Game Drive in Mikumi National Park⌄

   Spend a full day exploring Mikumi’s open grasslands. Visit the Hippo Pools to view resident hippos and crocodiles, and track large herds of buffaloes, wildebeests, and predators across the park.

3. 3Mikumi to Ruaha National Park⌄

   Enjoy an early breakfast before driving deeper into the Southern Circuit toward Ruaha National Park. Pass through the Great Rift Valley and Iringa town. Arrive at Ruaha in the late afternoon for a relaxing evening in the wilderness.

4. 4Full Day Wilderness Exploration in Ruaha National Park⌄

   Embark on morning and afternoon game drives along the Great Ruaha River. Ruaha is famous for harboring one of Africa's largest elephant populations, giant prides of lions, elusive leopards, and rare sable antelopes.

5. 5Ruaha National Park Wildlife Tracking⌄

   Continue exploring Ruaha’s vast baobab-dotted landscape. Track endangered African wild dogs, Greater Kudu, and over 570 bird species with your expert guide. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the bush.

6. 6Ruaha to Mikumi Transit Area⌄

   After a final morning game drive in Ruaha, begin your journey back eastward toward Mikumi. Enjoy an en-route game drive through changing landscapes and spend a peaceful night preparing for Selous.

7. 7Mikumi to Nyerere National Park (Selous)⌄

   Drive from Mikumi into Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve), Africa’s largest protected wilderness. Arrive in time for an afternoon Rufiji River boat safari to observe hippos, Nile crocodiles, and rich waterbird species.

   Overnight: Rufiji River Camp / Kinga Lodge or similar.

8. 8Full Day Safari in Nyerere National Park (Selous)⌄

   Take a full-day game drive traversing the varied habitats of Selous, from riverine forests to open woodlands. Search for lions, wild dogs, giraffes, and impalas while taking in the pristine, uncrowded natural surroundings.

9. 9Guided Bush Walk & Boat Safari in Selous⌄

   Start the day with an early morning nature walk led by an armed ranger to learn about tracking, medicinal plants, and small wildlife. Follow up with an afternoon game drive or river cruise.

10. 10Selous to Dar es Salaam & Departure⌄

    Enjoy a final breakfast before driving back to Dar es Salaam. Arrive in the late afternoon for drop-off at your hotel or directly at Julius Nyerere International Airport for your flight home.
