Day by day itinerary

  1. 1Burana Tower⌄

Burana Tower is an ancient minaret from the 11th century, preserved from the city of Balasagun, the capital of the Karakhanid state. It is located in the Chuy Valley, about 80 km from Bishkek, near the town of Tokmok. Originally the tower was about 45 meters high, but after earthquakes only 21 meters remain. Built of burnt brick, it is one of the oldest minarets in Central Asia and an important monument of the Great Silk Road. Today, the tower is part of an archaeological and architectural museum complex and is protected as cultural heritage of Kyrgyzstan.

Orto-Tokoy Reservoir is the first reservoir built in Kyrgyzstan in 1956. It is located on the Chu River, near the village of Kochkor, on the border of the Naryn and Issyk-Kul regions. - Size: about 18 km long, up to 5 km wide, with an area of 26 km². - Volume: approximately 0.47 km³ of water, with a depth of up to 47 m. - Purpose: used for irrigation of farmland in the Chuy region and southern Kazakhstan. - Features: situated at an altitude of 1700 m above sea level, surrounded by mountains. The water changes shades from blue to emerald and almost black, creating a picturesque view.

Pause for lunch in a roadside café or guesthouse en route.

Son-Kul Lake is a large high-mountain lake in the Naryn region of Kyrgyzstan. • Altitude: about 3016 m above sea level. • Size: ~28 km long, ~18 km wide, with an area of 278 km². • Depth: average 8.6 m, maximum ~14 m. • Features: a freshwater lake that freezes from November to April. Surrounded by the Tian Shan mountains, with no trees around—only alpine meadows with grasses and edelweiss. • Significance: the second largest lake in Kyrgyzstan after Issyk-Kul, important for pastures, fishing, and tourism.
