Day by day itinerary
1Cusco – Kilómetro 104 – Aguas Calientes⌄
We will leave Cusco at 4:00 a.m. to begin our 2-day hike along the Inca Trail. We will travel by car for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to Ollantaytambo, where we will have breakfast. Then, we will board the train to kilometer 104 (start of the trail). Today's hike will take us along the most beautiful section of the 4-day Classic Inca Trail. We will visit beautiful Inca sites, see a variety of flora and fauna, and enjoy breathtaking views of the Andes.
Our hike begins in the Sacred Valley and ascends along an Inca stone path to the archaeological site of Wiñay Wayna. After visiting Wiñay Wayna, we will stop for lunch with an incredible view of the mountain. After enjoying our meal, we will walk through the lush green cloud forest that covers the mountain, observing a wide variety of plants, flowers, orchids, and birds along the way. After a full day of hiking, we will arrive at the Sun Gate, where you will have your first view of Machu Picchu spread out over the mountain ridge. From there, we will walk approximately 45 minutes more until we reach Machu Picchu. We will explore the upper section of the site following Circuit 01, where you can take the famous postcard photo of Machu Picchu. Then, we will take a bus to Aguas Calientes, arriving at approximately 5:00 p.m. Once there, the guide will help you check into your hotel. You will have free time before dinner, during which you can visit the hot springs for a relaxing bath.
