Day by day itinerary
1Discover Santa Maria - South Coast Trail⌄
Natural Monument of the Quarry of Campo, Figueiral and Prainha The Natural Monument contains underwater volcanic rocks and marine fossiliferous sediments, unique in the Azores Archipelago. The sedimentary levels, by their fossiliferous expression and age (about 5 million years old) allow to establish inter-macaroniic and stratigraphic correlations between Macaronesia and the European and African continents, and contribute to the understanding of the geological history of the Northeast Atlantic and of the colonization of the macaronesian islands.
2Discover Santa Maria - North Coast Trail⌄
This small 9 km linear route connects the localities of Bananeiras and Anjos, on a trip along the north coast of the island. Leave Bananeiras towards Raposo Bay. This trail, widely used as access to the fishing grounds of the bay, classified as Geosite, allows you to visit two azenhas, the levada that feeds them and a mill belonging to the local wine culture, currently in ruins.
