Day by day itinerary

  1. 1Athens-Dion-Vergina-Aiges⌄

Your first stop on the slopes of Mount Olympus is Dion, a key site for the Macedonians. It was here that grand festivals were held in honor of Olympian Zeus and the Pierian Muses, featuring theatrical and gymnastic competitions known as "Olympia ta en Dion," which continued until around 100 B.C. Dion was also the place where Philip II celebrated the capture of Olynthos, the capital of the Chalkidian League, and where Alexander the Great sought the blessings of the king of the gods before embarking on his journey East.

Next, visit Vergina, the ancient capital of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great. Explore the underground museum, which began construction in 1993 and opened in 1997, showcasing four interconnected areas. These include the Palace, the royal burial cluster of the Temenid dynasty (Burial Cluster "C"), the tomb of Philip II, and a gateway entrance featuring a semi-open-air exhibition of sculptures discovered in the city sanctuaries. The museum also includes the restored upper floor of Philip's Palace façade, offering a fascinating glimpse into the grandeur of the past.

Discover Aigai, the ancient first capital of the Kingdom of Macedon, uncovered in the 19th century near Vergina in northern Greece. The city’s most impressive remains include a monumental palace adorned with intricate mosaics and painted stuccoes. The significance of Aigai’s ancient treasures has drawn global attention, and special facilities, including the digital museum “Alexander the Great: From Aigai to Oikoumene”, have been created for visitors. This interactive museum will connect Aigai with other global archaeological sites, showcasing the universal value of this UNESCO Heritage site.

The final stop of the day is Thessaloniki, where the program is tailored to your preferences, offering a wide range of exciting options. Thessaloniki is known for the nightlife and the local neighbourhoods with amazing local Greek taverns.

Visit the iconic White Tower of Thessaloniki, a historic landmark offering stunning views of the city and a glimpse into its rich cultural past.

  2. 2Thessaloniki-Amfipoli-Athens⌄

The Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki is one of Greece's largest and most significant museums, serving as the cultural hub of northern Greece. Visitors can explore its exceptional collections of ancient artifacts and immerse themselves in a variety of dynamic cultural activities.

In 2014, Amphipolis became the epicenter of global excavations with the discovery of a massive tomb featuring two stunning Caryatids, sparking worldwide excitement. These statues, mirroring each other on either side of a marble doorway, have led to theories that the tomb belongs to a significant female figure from Alexander the Great’s era, such as Olympias, the wife of Philip II and mother of Alexander. Caryatids, sculpted female figures used as pillars in Greek and Roman architecture, stand over seven feet tall at the tomb’s entrance. With one arm outstretched as if guarding the tomb’s entrance, these figures heighten speculation that the tomb could also be the resting place of Roxana, Alexander’s wife.

Experience an exclusive wine tasting at Biblia Chora, one of Greece's most renowned wineries. With a legacy dating back 4,500 years, wine-making in Greece is an ancient art, and the unique humidity of the region makes Biblia Chora winery one of the most awarded in the world. Enjoy world-class wines in a setting steeped in history and craftsmanship.
