We will pick you up from your hotel or the airport in Cusco at 5:30 AM. We'll drive along Manu Road, stopping briefly at Oropesa Bakery Town.
We'll then visit the Ninamarca site to explore the pre-Incan burials with a guided tour. Next, we'll head to Paucartambo Village, where we'll enjoy a delightful breakfast followed by a guided walk through the local market, main square, and colonial bridge
Upon crossing Acjanaco Pass at an elevation of 3550 meters (11,647 feet), the landscape undergoes a dramatic transformation from dry valleys to lush, wet valleys. The view looking down toward the lowlands is simply splendid and should not be missed. The journey takes you through the verdant and misty cloud forest, an environment surrounded by massive rocks and cascading waterfalls. This type of rainforest is among the most fragile and threatened, featuring a unique ecosystem filled with lichens and moss-carpeted soil. In this enchanting setting, birdwatching will be a primary focus. You will have the opportunity to observe a diverse array of bird species, including the brightly red Andean Cock-of-the-Rock, Peru's national bird. With a bit of luck, you may also encounter woolly monkeys, adding to the richness of your experience in this remarkable environment.
We will make a brief stop at the bustling local market in Pilcopata town, where you can immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere and observe the daily life of the locals. The market is a treasure trove of fresh produce (bananas, Papayas, pineapples), local crafts, and traditional goods, offering a glimpse into the rich culture of the area.
By mid-afternoon, we'll arrive at Guadalupe Lodge, a serene and comfortable retreat. After settling in, we'll explore the nearby canyon and caves to observe nocturnal creatures like bats, spiders, and scorpions. We'll also traverse the palm forest trail, looking for colorful macaws and playful monkeys. As night falls, we'll embark on a night walk to discover reptiles, spiders, and amphibians, experiencing the forest's lively nocturnal world.
