Colca Canyon

Lake Titicaca and the south

The Colca Canyon is one of the deepest in the world, lined with pre Inca terraces and colonial villages. At the Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint, Andean condors ride the morning thermals just above your head.

Most visitors come on a 2 day trip from Arequipa, many continuing to Puno and Lake Titicaca.

Ways to visit

A 2 day road trip covers the hot springs at Chivay, the villages and the condors. Fit hikers can descend into the canyon to the Sangalle oasis on a 2 or 3 day trek. Our Arequipa and Colca guide has an altitude chart of the route.

Colca Canyon: questions

What time do the condors fly at Colca?

Usually from about 8 to 10 am, when the morning air warms up. Tours time their arrival for this.

Can you do the Colca Canyon in one day?

Yes, on a very early tour from Arequipa, but two days is far more relaxed.
