Lake Titicaca islands

Lake Titicaca and the south

Boats from Puno reach three very different island communities. The Uros live on islands woven from totora reeds; Taquile is known for textiles made by its men and women; and on Amantani, families host visitors overnight.

The lake sits at 3,810 m, so visit after Cusco and pack for freezing nights.

Choosing a trip

Our Lake Titicaca guide covers getting there from Cusco and continuing to Bolivia.

  • Uros only. A 2 to 3 hour boat trip from Puno; easy to fit in on arrival.
  • Uros and Taquile. A full day with lunch on Taquile.
  • Amantani homestay. Two days with a night with a local family: simple, cold and memorable.
