The Cultural Triangle
As the dry season takes hold, elephants from across the region move to the grassy shores of the Minneriya reservoir. From about July to September, herds of a hundred or more can be seen at once, one of Asia's great wildlife sights.
Outside those months, drivers choose between Minneriya, Kaudulla and Hurulu Eco Park depending on where the herds are that week.
Planning your safari
- Trust your driver. Jeep drivers share news on where the elephants are; Kaudulla or Hurulu may be better on a given day.
- Go in the afternoon. Elephants come out to the grass from mid afternoon until dusk.
