Trang An and Tam Coc, Ninh Binh

Hanoi and the north · UNESCO World Heritage

The Trang An Landscape Complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a world of steep karst peaks, rivers, caves and rice paddies. Local rowers, often using their feet, take visitors along the waterways and through caves beneath the mountains.

Ninh Binh is about two hours from Hanoi. Many tours stop for a day, but a night here lets you enjoy the boats and the views before the crowds arrive.

Trang An or Tam Coc?

Trang An is the calmer, better organised trip, with more caves and temples. Tam Coc is famous for the rice fields between the peaks, golden in late May and early June. Our Ninh Binh guide compares them in detail.
