Getting to Ella

The classic way in is by train, and the best part of the line, from Nanu Oya to Ella, has been running again since July 2026. The section from Kandy is not yet open, so most travellers drive from Kandy to Nanu Oya and take the train from there. See the full status below and in our train guide.
