Overview

Shanghai is one of the best inbound cities of China. Take a train from Shanghai to Lhasa and enjoy the special scenery changing from skyscrapers of big cities to the depopulated zone of Tibet Plateau. And the train will take you to Tibet for visiting.

Day by day itinerary

  1. 1Take a train to Lhasa from Shanghai⌄

    Your tour starts from the Shanghai Railway Station. You need hold your passport and Tibet Travel Permit to ticket window where you will pick you up your train ticket. When entering the station, you need to present to the conductor your passport, China Visa, Tibet Travel Permit and train ticket. Then start to enjoy the memorable trip. The train departs at 20:00. (The train might depart from Beijing in the afternoon if transfer train ticket is purchased.) Notes: Travel date from Apr.1 to Oct.10, clients need accept that tour operator will buy transfer train tickets: Shanghai - Xining ticket and then Xining - Lhasa ticket because direct train ticket from Shanghai to Lhasa is impossible to buy during this period.

  2. 2On the Train to Lhasa⌄

    Today, on the first full-day, you will pass through two important provincial capitals in northwest China: Lanzhou and Xining. Traveling along on Qinghai-Tibet Railway, you will be able to enjoy the incredible scenery of the countries in Northwest China.

  3. 3Lhasa Arrival⌄

    Today, you will witness the most beautiful scenic view on the Qinghai Tibet Train. After arrival, your tour guide will meet you at the train station in Lhasa.

  4. 4Lhasa (B,D)⌄

    Today's tour will first bring you to the Potala Palace which is the winter palace of the Dalai lama. It was put to use since the 7th Century by the 33rd great king of Tibet. The most valuable collections of Potala Palace are the gilded burial stupas of former Dalai Lamas and meditation Cave of the 33rd great king of Tibet.

    Then after lunch, tourists head to Jokhang temple which was founded by the 33rd great king of Tibet in the 7th century. Inside you can see the statue of Buddha Sakyamuni at the age of twelve. Outside, you can see pilgrims making prostrating in front of Jokhang Temple.

  5. 5Lhasa (B)⌄

    In the morning ,you are going to visit Drepung monastery which is one of the “great three” Gelug monasteries of Tibet, founded in 1416 by Jamyang choge, one of the Tsongkhapa’s main disciples. You can visit biggest monastery kitchen inside the monastery and enjoy Buddhist Sculpture Carving workshop near Drepung.

    In the Afternoon, Tourists will visit Sera Monastery which is another one of the “great three” Gelug monasteries of Tibet. The hot attraction is the Monks debate at around 3 - 5 in the afternoon. In addition, you can tour the Tibetan religious scripture printing house; inside the monastery, you can see three sand Mandalas and colorful Rock Painting of Buddha.

    After eating breakfast, you will be transferred to the train station or the airport if you need.

Good to know

Starts: On Day 1, depart from Shanghai Train Station. Please make sure you arrive at Shanghai Train Station in advance to have enough time to pick up the train ticket and board the train. Direct train ticket from Shanghai to Lhasa: at 20:08pm.

Ends: Pick up tourists from Lhasa hotel at 06:30 am; 08:00 am; 12:00 pm

  • A copy of your Tibet travel permit will be sent to you in advance. When entering into Shanghai Train Station, please present your Tibet travel permit, train ticket, passport, and Chinese visa to the conductor
  • Once the train ticket from Shanghai to Lhasa is booked, it can not be canceled by tour supplier. If customers cancel the tour after train ticket has been booked, they will be charged the cost of train ticket
  • A valid passport and China L Visa used to apply for Tibet Permit are required on the travelling period
  • Price is based on double occupancy. Single room supplement is subject to availability and additional charge
  • In June, July, or August, the hard or soft sleeper train tickets are difficult to purchase, tour supplier will recommend some transfer trains for choosing. Both sides will choose the better one.
